What is a Sound Bath and how can it help me?

Updated: Aug 29, 2023

A sound bath is a 1 hour session where you lie on yoga mats on the floor or recline in a weightless state in a zero gravity chair. I use Himalayan Singing bowls, Tuning Forks, Tingshas, Koshi Chimes, Wave Drums, Rain Sticks and other instruments to make vibrational sounds that have a soothing effect. Our bodies respond to frequencies that affect our hormones which release chemicals that reduce stress and strengthen our immune system. Sound frequencies shift brain waves from the beta state which is what we experience during conscious thought into Alpha (i.e. calm & relaxed state), Theta (i.e. sleep & deep meditation) and even Delta waves (i.e. deep healing & regeneration.) A sound bath recalibrates our system and shifts us into the parasympathetic nervous system. When our sympathetic nervous systems (i.e. fight or flight) are stimulated, which is generally for most people, our bodies are unable to relax, repair and heal. Therefore, the only way to heal is to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (i.e. rest and digest.) A sound bath does just that.

Sound baths have been shown to improve mood significantly and to decrease tension and anxiety.

My sound baths usually start with breath work and a short guided meditation designed to help you sink in and relax more quickly. Both breath work and meditation induce relaxation, reduce stress, anxiety and depression, lower blood pressure, improve sleep and have many more positive impacts on our body, mind and soul.

The most impactful way to experience a sound therapy session, or sound bath, is in person. However, there are ways that you can accomplish this on your own as well. Look up sound bath sessions on YouTube and listen to them in a relaxed position through headphones or earbuds. Or, purchase your own instruments and use them on yourself at home.

If you are interested in experiencing a sound bath session please text me at 541-282-3605 for my upcoming schedule. Or, visit my website for upcoming sessions at These sessions start September 15, 2023 and will take place in a harmonious home based environment in Southwest Medford, Oregon next to South Medford High School. The sessions are 1 hour long and cost $35 per person for a group sound therapy class. In my sessions you will experience the instruments being played all around you but will also have the benefit of Tuning Forks and Himalayan Singing Bowls being played on your body, which is a particularly extraordinary experience.

If you have questions or would like to know more about sound therapy and its benefits please contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.
